how my thoughts
She froze like a cornered animal when he gently gripped her hand, running a thumb along the surface. She waited for him to yell and pull away, scalded by the touch. It was a terrifying moment as she stood and simply watched before she realized that the fire was held in check under her skin. Her eyes flicked to his face, trying to work him out. Only moments ago, she'd been hot enough to melt through the thick steel girders that built the athletic complex. How had she controlled it that fast? Did he give her control? Why? Lee couldn't quite place the sensation, but she felt electricity run up her back and into her brain, preventing her from finding anything to do or say. It was enough to make her scream, but she simply pressed her lips tighter closed. The elemental wanted to yell, pull her arms back, throw punches, but she knew it wouldn't take the softness out of his voice. She hated it the way it felt. She hated the way she couldn't make herself pull away.
"If it pleases you and you absolutely detest everything about me, then I'll leave."
"You shouldn't be ashamed of it."
Why should he care about pleasing her? What did he know about being ashamed? About who she was? Hate. Hate. Hate. Pulling her hand away as he finally released it, she wrapped her arms around her middle and stared at the ground. 'Maybe he would know if you told him,' cried the burning part of her, even as she furiously ground her foot into it. "I don't...," she muttered, halting in frustration and gripping her arms, "I don't detest you." Lee watched as his feet came almost toe-to-toe with hers, but she didn't want to look up. It would lead to know good. She'd just hurt more. It wasn't hard to tell that he was extremely close, though. She felt his breath on her temple and couldn't help noticing the cologne that hung around him. Inside, she writhed like a wild animal, wanting to make him hurt the way he seemed to so easily make her. She wanted to drag him out from under her skin. His words melted over her, like a river splitting around rock at its center.
"Ask me and I'll answer, but don't ask me to go..."
Her cheek felt cold where it had brushed his as he pulled away, but the elemental resisted the urge to touch it. She took a slow breath, and then another, letting the silence fill the space following his offer. It would be easy to hear his story, to finally know, but he would want hers in return. Was she ready to say it out loud? Doubt gnawed at her. Letting her arms slide to her sides, Lee finally looked up and braced herself. Her eyes met his cautiously, valiantly trying to hold up against the weight that fell from them. Although his face seemed stern, she didn't flinch. Somehow, she knew that it was the same facade she used when the time called for it. She tried to imagine how it would change after he knew. The thought would have stung her, but it now it glanced off of her. Lee didn't want to think about how it would change. Instead, she found herself inching closer, as if egging herself on. Lee felt her hands left from her sides slowly and find his chest at a similar rate. Voices were jumbled up in her head, incoherent and indistinguishable over the pounding in her ears. Nothing more than a buzz. It was only when her face was barely an inch from his that one voice managed to raise above the rest. 'What are you doing? You're only just met him!' Leena hesitated, realization crashing down on her.
The nurse jerked back as if shocked, hands jumping away and finding her face. She pressed her fingers to her eyes and temples. "I'm sorry. I have to-," she said, not bothering to finish before she rushed past John and out of the infirmary. Once out in the hallway, she paused, pulling her hands down her face and pressing them together in front of her mouth. What had gotten into her? She felt as if she barely knew who she was anymore. Lee turned and continued away from the doors, not knowing where she was going, but wanting to be away from here. At least, that's what she told herself she wanted.
((Asdf That was fun. We should start another thread after this. C: Also, this song was playing when I wrote part of this. LINK I though you might like it.))
