It was warm despite the descending summer days. One didn't need to look at a calender to know that winter was just around the corner, waiting for the perfect moment to start bringing its chilled, angry winds with it. Now, while Vivian enjoyed nature and all it had to offer, she couldn't say she was very fond of winter. Many would assume because she had been raised in this general, north-eastern area that she was use to the cold weather winter brought and would take little notice to it. But, that was far from the truth. It didn't matter that she had spent her life living in an area where it snowed every winter. It didn't matter that the creature she was forced to change into once a month was one who thrived in cold, frigid climates. Vivian hated the cold. She despised the way it stung her flesh, the way it always brought her shivering. And, most of all, she simply plain hated cold.
And, it was because of those reasons that she was out in the gardens. She wanted to enjoy every last piece of warmth the season had to offer before the white, frozen dust began to appear on the ground and soil her comforting enjoyment. She was not focused quite on those thoughts, though. At least, not for the time being. Instead, she seemed to be quite fascinated with a small, browning leaf. Or, rather what was on it. Silently creeping over the crisp, cracking surface of the dried leaf, a small, clumsy looking insect made its way to one edge before scuttling over to the opposite edge, looking for some means of escape. Of course, Vivian would release the small thing and let it return to its business, but for now, she was taking her time in studying the tiny thing. She had always had an interest in insects even as a small child, always bringing them inside from the backyard. But, her parents always scolded her for such a thing.
Vivian was perfectly aware of her tendency to fall ill so easily, but she had never believed that a small bug could get her sick. But, that had been the reasoning behind her parent's desire to keep bugs out of the house. At some points, they would even keep the girl inside to make sure she didn't wander off to gather more creepy-crawlies to bring back home. But, being away from the prying eyes of her parents, the hybrid was able to do things she normally couldn't. Like, watching and studying this small, black bug. She still was not quite as to what it was, but it was still enough to keep her occupied. So much so that she had been completely oblivious to the person who stepped on the path beside her...

Despite the fact that the air wasn’t quite so bitter as it could be when winter got underway, Aria was still all bundled up in an expensive faux fur coat, hat perched neatly on her head and gloved hands delved into the pockets of her outer wear. Whilst she was used to a temperate climate, originating from the south of France, she didn’t particularly welcome the cold months, and liked to make as much of a fuss about it as she possibly could. However, not even her desire to stay inside and get away from the almost bitter weather was enough to stop her from heading outside, her need to take a walk somehow managing to overbear everything else until it was the only thing on her mind. Not only was the girl bored out of her mind, but the less than mediocre company of her fellow students was enough to make her want to vomit- a slight exaggeration, perhaps, but really on very slight all the same.
It had taken all of another stupid comment from some stupid girl to push her over the edge, thus securing her desire to venture out into the gardens, rather than stay inside and listen to the nonsensical babbling of those around her. She had absolutely no idea where her friends were and although she was a popular girl who could probably find some kind of company wherever she looked, she was particularly choosy about said company she kept. One had to be, really, when they were constantly looking out for themselves- it was only a given, wasn’t it? With that in mind, she wasted no more time in striding from the room she had been sat in with a haughty expression, stopping by the dormitories to pick up her colder weather clothing, and walking straight on down to the grounds. The weather would still have been warm to some, but Aria tended to feel the cold more than others, hating the chill the slightest breeze could send crawling down her spine.
Walking at a brisk pace with all the purpose as a girl who had somewhere to be when, in actuality, no such thing was true, it took her little time to get to her destination, at which she slowed to a more leisurely stroll, away from the prying eyes of those back at the academy. Aria had always very much had a mask in place, one that few people were allowed to see past, but now when she was alone and there seemed to be nobody else around, she was able to let it slide a little, letting out a small sigh and pulling her hands from within her pockets to rub them together in order to force some warmth into them. It was a few moments later that she looked up ahead and saw the figure of a familiar looking person- and as much as Aria had wanted to get away from people, she wasn’t particularly a fan of being alone, either. Walking daintily up beside the girl, she bent slightly to look at whatever it was she was looking at, her expression one of distaste. ”What on earth is that?” A true girl, Aria hated bugs of any kind.

Having been so absorbed in her little study of the unnamed beetle that scurried over the surface of the dried leaf, Vivian had failed to notice the girl that had stepped up beside her. Jumping faintly at the sound of her voice, her head snapped up to look at who interrupted her train of thought. Blinking, her pale green eyes staring up at the young red-haired woman, taking in her features. The girl was pretty and captivating, but the hybrid refused to let her mind wander. Unfortunately, regardless of who it was, she had a habit of wondering if this girl could be anyone she could be with. Probably not. She was pretty, sure, but simply not her type. Of course, she shouldn't be bothering herself with such thoughts. She had to blame her childhood friend for that, though. Her friend had always been one to try and match Vivian up with other girls and she simply began doing the same. Still grasping the leaf in her hand, she offered the other girl a faint smile in greeting before she even began to speak.
"Just some kind of beetle. Not sure what kind, but--" she had began, but stopped as she had turned back to the leaf only to find the fat, glossy shelled beetle gone. Shoulders slumping faintly in disappointment, she turned the leaf over and over in her hands to be sure she hadn't simply missed it, but it was pointless. The bug was gone. In fact, it had been gone for majority of the time since the red-haired girl had come in. In her surprise, Vivian had shook the bug off when she jumped, clearly not having realized that she had. And, now, the small insect was trying to bury itself beneath the grasses and roots, hiding from the grasps of the hybrid. "...The hell it go," she asked more to herself than the other girl, but when a quick glance over the ground beneath her brought no sign of the beetle, Vivian quickly let it drop.
Shrugging her shoulders faintly, she simply tossed the leaf that had once held the bug off to the side, her gaze turning back up at this new girl. Vivian could recall seeing her a few times around the school, though she was usually with others. Being the kind of person that she was, the hybrid didn't usually simply walk up to someone to start a conversation. Rather, she waited for someone to come up to her before she would even speak. Because of that, she knew only a small handful of people by their names, but this girl was not one of them. She would have thought, though, that she would've remembered it after hearing her name in roll call during classes. "I'm Vivian, by the way," she suddenly shot out, not sure if the girl herself remembered who she was. And, it also gave her a chance to learn the girls name if she returned the gesture.

Aria was mostly unperturbed by the fact that the girl hadn’t noticed her at all until she had spoken, despite the fact that she was used to garnering attention from the masses wherever she went. Awaiting an answer in an almost polite way (at least for her- there were no crossed arms or tapping feet to be seen), she took the time to study the girl, vaguely registering that her face was of some familiarity to her, although Aria wasn’t entirely sure why, other than the fact that they both clearly attended the academy. Other than that, she couldn’t really place a name to the face, but it wasn’t something that worried her. Aria rarely paid attention to those around her, unless it was of utmost importance that she did. There was little doubt in her mind that she probably hadn’t spoken to this girl before at all, but that wouldn’t stop her from probing around a little right now. She was bored, and the fact that she had nothing to do and nobody to talk to was irritating her- this girl would provide some sort of entertainment for the time being at least.
She really didn’t care much for what the bug was- it had merely been a conversation starter. She did however, notice when the girl managed to shake the insect from the leaf, and her lips quirked upwards in amusement when she turned and realised that she had misplaced the bug in her shock. ”Oh. It was ugly.” Aria responded, lifting one shoulder in a half hearted attempt at a shrug, watching with some curious amusement as the girl tried to find the thing again. Honestly, she couldn’t understand what was so important or interesting about the beetle that the girl wanted to study it- the very idea of touching such a thing made Aria’s skin crawl. All the same, she remained her polite self; years of being brought up in certain social circles had done her some good. ”Far away from here, hopefully.” she mumbled in response to the mostly rhetorical question, nose scrunching in distaste.
Pleased when she finally had the girls full attention (it was what she was used to- so sue her for enjoying it), she tried once again to put a name to the face, but drew a blank as before. Honestly, it wasn’t really shocking that Aria didn’t know who this girl was- there were only a few people she really deigned as good enough for her to actually get to know, especially when doing such a thing took effort and that wasn’t something she could afford to spend for no reason. Besides, Aria was always far too busy with the people she did know to start making more friends- there were always people who wanted to be a part of her inner circle, but it took a special kind of person to actually get there. With a pleased little smile as the girl finally offered her name, Aria inclined her head in acknowledgement. ”Aria Lestoat.” She said by way of introduction- she had hoped knowing the others name would spark some recognition but it really hadn’t.
