In all honesty, Aria had no idea why she had even taken up a job as a barista in the Lacroix cafe. It wasn’t as though she particularly needed the money; despite being orphaned now, her parents had always been extremely wealthy and prestigious back in the day, and had left the entirety of their estate and riches to their sole heir (read: her) in their wills. She had basically everything she could ever want at hand for her, yet she still found herself slaving away in the cafe more often than not- although perhaps the term ‘slaving away’ was one of great exaggeration. Aria rarely slaved over anything. In fact, she seemed to spend most of her time hiding out in the back and painting her nails until someone scolded her for doing so and ordered her into going back out to the front to serve drinks and cash money and that sort of thing. Mostly, the job was just something to help her pass the time, because she couldn’t really think of anything else to do with her spare time; other than swim, of course, but that proved more dangerous than before these days. It wasn’t as though she detested her job at all- quite the contrary, actually. She had met some truly fascinating people (and some truly ridiculous, too) and there was always some sort of source of entertainment provided to help her get by- but today, she wasn’t particularly in the right mood for working. Rather than actually doing anything, she was spending most of her time scowling at customers and watching the clock on the wall tick away her hours.
She was due to get off in a half hour or so anyway, and so Aria figured she could probably last until then, especially considering she was hardly lifting a finger today as it was. Wiping down the counter unnecessarily for the fifth time that afternoon, with a questionable looking rag, she let out a grievous sigh and wondered idly why she didn’t just quite. Of course, she wasn’t really thinking about- God knew what she’d have to do with her time then, after all- but it was something that could at least envelop her mind for a little while, whilst she tried to figure out what she was going to do with the rest of her day when she actually finished her shift. The morning had dragged on more than any other so far this week, and although the weather outside was fairly nice, she was still all bundled up as though Winter was attempting to crawl into her very bones, having never been a fan of colder weather. Glancing up as the bell over the door rang to announce the arrival of a new customer, she quickly took up post by the cash register, trying her best to look more amicable than irritated; the thing was, Aria rarely deigned to talk to those lesser than her, because she had never had to do such a thing in her life- until she had decided to take the job at the cafe and, as a result, had to talk to all kinds of people. It wasn’t that she was cruel, really- she’d just always lived a certain way and always been given whatever she wanted, and so she had an air of self righteousness that she could never seem to shake. Still, she plastered a ‘cheery’ smile on, and awaited to take the customers order.
