The silver rays burst through the gray clouds washing over the darkened foliage. Its omniscient gaze surveying the land for her children. Her silver strands stretched across the tired land searching for the unwilling beasts she would soon tame and like vines she wrapped her silver tendrils around the necks of her varied menagerie. Henry stripped out of his clothes feeling the shift in his bones. His eyes were luminescent with mother moon's call and his body was aching, shivering to give in to her calming touch. He tossed the last piece of his clothing aside and burst into the air.
She pulled him along the silver strand of moonlight twisting around his body until it morphed. The tanned skin darkening into the full black of the night. Luminous blue eyes peaked out from the black furred face and the agile body burst into the forest. Pawing, Padding, Clawing into the ground he went. Mouth open as the four legged beast bounded through the charted paths. The mother was content to see her son and she released her grasp. The wolf halted and raised its muzzle to the sky. Luminous blue eyes gazed at her wonder and with a powerful huff he drew in a breath.
The black wolf let out a deafening howl and just like that he was back in human form holding the naked ground with his naked body as he regained his orientation. He stood his eyes surveying the empty forest as he gathered his clothing. Piece by piece he laid them in a neat stack on top of an old tree stump. His muscles rippled lightly as he pulled on his boxers covering his indecency before slipping on his jeans. He drew in a breath and sniffed the air a couple of times afterwards.
Wrong... The air smelled wrong. He gazed upward luminous eyes staring dead ahead as he stood his ground. A deep growl rolled from his chest as he awaited confrontation...

Esmerelda had watched as the wolf had shifted back into his human form, and lifted her head away just before the shift was complete. He knew she was there, so she didn't hesitate to pad out along the branch of the tree she was in.
She was in her half-way form, and her green eyes glowed as she resisted the call of the forest. She knew that to run now could incite the wolf's natural inclination to hunt, and besides, he had her scent now. He would follow it straight back to her.
She tilted her head to the side as the moon shone above, highlighting the hilt of the sword strapped to her back. She gathered her control, in case she would need to flee. Wolves on a full moon were highly unpredictable, as she knew from experience.

"You can come out or I can hunt you down..." He let out an ominous growl his eyes bright in the night air. As the Alpha of his pack Henry was the biggest, nastiest and strongest wolf. He was not to be messed with. While he was ruthless with enemies, he did have a benevolent sense of self-control. He didn't unleash his wrath on those who didn't deserve it.
He could smell the hidden stranger. He closed his eyes for a moment tracking back through the memoirs of scents. It was a female he could tell. There was a distinct difference between males and females that was an easy learned task as a child. As he inhaled again he knew exactly what it was. He opened his eyes allowing his muscles to relax. It wasn't what he expected at first, but he knew hybrids faintly.
He had met a few in his time as Alpha and as peacekeeping measures he had met quite a few by keeping them from his pack's jaws. This was a little knew though. Whoever she was smelled like an elemental. They had something in common with his cousin Sura, something fresh, but not electric like Sura's energy. If he took another breath he could smell the shifter in her, but it was too diluted to say whether she came from shape or were line.
He grimaced a bit and crossed his arms. "I don't like games..." Henry would give them a minute and then he'd be gone. He had better things to do than play with students. As much as he loved the students he came into the office, they all knew once they tread into the woods they had to be careful. He pulled his shirt over his head before placing his hands in his pockets.
He wasn't a fan of hybrids. They were usually trouble and abused their powers. Maybe it was a werewolf thing, but like vampires, Henry lumped shifters, sirens and hybrids in the same category. They weren't like weres and he wasn't going to accept them anywhere near his pack anytime soon. Still he was kind to the students who were different from them. If someone needed help, Henry was there to answer.

Esmerelda sighed, loudly. 'I'm up here, in the trees.' She moved further along her branch, so that he would see her, keeping a firm grip on the branch overhead. The last thing she needed was her clumsiness to rear its head now, of all times. Her green eyes glowed as she stared down at the man, knowing he was the local Pack's Alpha. Bearing this in mind, she bowed formally. 'Alpha. I am Esmerelda Jade, a were snow leopard-air elemental Hybrid.' She carefully straightened up again. 'I have been meaning to speak with you for some time, now. I have claimed the trees in this area, but I don't step foot on the ground here. Your Pack has no need to come after me. I fully intend to stay out of their way up here.' She frowned, having recognized a scent that clung to him. 'Forgive me, but I can smell a friend. Do you know Ross? I can smell him, but my senses tell me he's elsewhere in the forest...'

Henry took a few paces back to lean on a tree. His eyes traced the branches until he found her. With a cross of his arms he examined her remembering Alex's run down of the growing population of hybrids. Hybrids weren't a big thing when he was growing up, a lot of people stuck to their own species, but once people started to value love over species separation there wasn't much stopping them. While there still weren't many hybrids compared to majority species, they were growing in population and it was starting some pretty interesting controversy among species.
As she introduced herself Henry kept tabs on the local sounds and scents. He didn't want to get caught off guard by anymore surprises. He kept his eyes locked on her though knowing full and well he didn't want her pouncing either. There were too many students to keep track of all of them and sometimes there were people from in town hunting the forests so there was no telling who she really was.
"Nice to meet you Esmerelda, I'm Dr. Taylor, the guidance counselor." He looked around for a moment wondering who she was addressing as Alpha. Sure Henry was the Alpha, but there was no way she could have known that. His pack didn't belong to the area. They were a Louisiana pack that had to gain permission from the local pack leader. "Look I don't know what you're talking about. I just run through here." He mentioned innocently. With all the events surrounding the death of a student he really wasn't ready to out anymore.
Henry looked at her with a bit more scrutiny wondering if she was new or maybe she just was bold and unafraid of the hunters and the holy cross. While Henry was pretty fearless himself, he had no intentions of endangering anyone who didn't need to be outed. "He's my brother." He remarked knowing that Ross had taken a different route for a shift. Ross was always more of a water boy. He liked shifting where the water could meet him so of course Henry and Ross were almost always separate when the full moon called. "I gave him a hug before I left campus." He explained the scent before looking out into the darkness.

Esme frowned in confusion. He had the size and scent of an Alpha, and remembering the lessons that Mrs Winters had given her on how to address Pack Leaders, she had decided to address him as such.
Deciding to let it go, she settled on her branch, feeling a little more comfortable with the introductions out of the way. The hilt of her sword caught the moonlight, and she covered it with one fur-covered hand to keep it from blinding him.
Realizing that that might seem threatening, though, she quickly undid the strap and hooked it over a nearby branch instead.
Hearing that Ross was his brother, she smiled. 'That makes sense, Sir. Ross has been a good friend to me.' She frowned and muttered under her breath to herself. 'My only friend, at the moment...'

Henry felt a very distinct shiver in his spine. He stretched his neck a bit to shoo it away, glaring at the moon for it's awkward pull. He had shifted for the full amount of time that it felt right, he had shifted. Henry needed a break for god sakes. Luckily for him he had been a were for a while now and had gotten the ropes down fairly well. While he could have remained in wolf form till day break it was nice to shift and be done with it for the night.
His mind drifted back to Ross who was as most people already knew was working on coming out of the closet. He worried about the kid sometimes, but in times when he needed his Beta he knew that Ross could handle it. The two had always been brothers and were pretty damn inseparable even though they weren't blood. He was sure that when his second in command decided to announce he wasn't going to imprint on a woman any time soon he would be just fine. Henry of course would get rid of the few naysayers, but no one needed to know about hat.
"Ross is a good kid, he's nice to everybody." Henry nodded in agreement. He uncrossed his arms before placing them back in his pockets. It was one of those habitual things that he did. Crossing his arms when he was suspicious or wary of something and tucking them in his pockets when he perceived no threat. Either way it was just a comfortable thing to do. "Besides the obvious shifting, what are you doing out here anyway?" He asked her trying to fill the silence.

Esme smiled, her green eyes lighting up. 'Hunting, and training.' She replied, an almost happy note in her voice. 'The trees here provide the perfect pathways for my cat and I to run on, as well as plenty of targets for my sword practice.'
She pointed at a spot over his head, where one of the tree branches had been worn almost flat and smooth with the years she had traveled that way. 'I've lived here on the island since I was a baby, and I know these trees better than some of the werewolves that live in these parts. The Alpha of the island would disagree, I know, but I only stay in this area, while he and his Pack travel across the entire island. I like this area-the waterfalls near here are truly something to behold on a night like this.'

Henry looked above him noting the well worn look. He wasn't an island native himself so he really couldn't say much. Some things at the Academy got a little weird for him and the way things worked with hybrids, well that was a different ball game too. "Training for what exactly?" He asked her curiously having already noted she carried around a sword with her.
Henry was keen on asking people about the peculiar things they did. Not because he wanted to ridicule them, but it was just a part of his analytical process. He wasn't exactly comfortable with a student carrying a swore around school, but it seemed that headmaster saw it as pretty harmless. Although he and Devereaux both agreed if an incident happened she would probably be out. Henry gave the kid the benefit of the doubt though. He had a feeling she wasn't into just blatantly slicing up students.
"I hate to burst your bubble kid, but the Alpha of the Island is a woman. I know her pretty well." Henry could feel the tips of his ears heat up a bit as he thought about her. It had been a while since they crossed paths and he was sure neither of them really wanted to. After their heated little escapades, Henry kind of kept his distance because the two of them didn't want a dispute over there packs about how territories would work if they got together. Instead he just left it be and they were friends with an awkward past.

Esme shrugged. 'I stay out of their way if I can, Sir. And my training is purely for self defence, I would never harm another student. I might frighten bullies, but I never actually draw my sword unless I have no other choice.'
She made a face. 'That's pretty rare, but I try not to let on to the humans that something's off about me-other than Tsundere, that is.' Her eyes turned serious. 'Since that incident recently, everyone's been worked up. I don't like it, and neither does my cat. We've been training as hard as we can, just in case. About the only part of that that she likes is the flying.'
She shifted slightly on her branch, making herself more comfy, and then tilted her head as she stared down at him, her eyes glowing in the moonlight. She had to admit, her curiosity was starting to get the better of her about the other supernaturals on the island. First she had met Ross, who had helped her see through her previous beliefs on men, and now his brother, who made her want to meet other supernaturals. I wonder what it is about these two brothers, Saphira...
I don't know, Esme. But they are kinder than most of the ones that usually try to talk to us.
True... Esme blinked, and shook her head to center herself again. Like she did every time she got distracted, she started to play with the tassel on Tsundere's hilt.

Henry nodded softly thinking about the strange circumstances that surrounded Luka's death. It was concerning to know that someone more than several times his age was murdered in cold blood in the school. For a while people suspected Sephora had something to do with it, but when the news surfaced that Luka was her's there was no more of that talk. Unlike Alexander, Henry was afraid of what Sephora would do if she so much suspected someone of killing her beloved Luka. It just didn't seem right. So close to the school and yet so far from being unraveled.
He had to laugh a bit at what she said before he shrugged his shoulders. "Besides the fact that you told my brother you were a hybrid without knowing who he was... He was pretty concerned about that." The Alpha leaned back against the tree keeping his hands relaxed in his pockets. "I thought it was pretty concerning too. It's not safe just announcing that kind of stuff to anyone. You caught a lucky break with Ross, I'll give you that, but you don't know who could have been listening." He added kindly trying not to sound like he was lecturing. He knew how much he hated that as a student, so he passed on giving it to anyone else.
Henry looked over his shoulder noting a deer that was speeding past. He smiled knowing the sweet smell of her scent anywhere. It was a high school junior Nora who spent a lot of her time shapeshifting into a deer because she loved the power and grace in their skinny legs. She was an interesting girl. "I'd be careful about hunting around here too. There are a lot of very innocent animals here and most of them you'd be surprised to find aren't animals at all." Henry grinned at the thought of all the students free to love themselves and their powers. You wouldn't find that anywhere else in the world. Not for a while at least.

Esme smiled. 'That's one of the benefits about my elemental side, Sir. I always know who is around, and because signals are sent through the air, it's not so difficult for me to disrupt them if I needed to. And as for what I told Ross... well... I trust my cat's instincts, and she told me that Ross could be trusted. It was sweet of him to worry about me, though.'
She watched the deer run past them, and her smile grew a little more. She didn't speak to the girl that had just passed them, but she did see her sometimes around the academy. 'As for the other students who come out here, and the animals that I hunt, I distinguish between them by scent. The shifters that come out here tend to smell of humans, something that a real animal never does. And I try to stay with the older animals, the ones that don't have much time left anyway.'

Henry knew a lot about elementals. He knew a lot about every species he could find information about. It was why he was so suited to being the school's guidance counselor. Regardless of what their species was Henry was there to understand and to be able to help them. Which he was able to do most of the time successfully. Of course there are always a few who are beyond helping, who have been damaged so much by society that there wasn't much more he could do besides work with them everyday to keep them off the ledge. It was a sad day when those students made it to him and Henry prayed for a day when he didn't have to have those students at all.
"Well kid if you feel like your safe then more power to you, but you have to remember that other kids don't feel that way. It'll save you a lot of trouble and gain a lot more friends if you don't keep announcing it like that." He laughed teasing her a bit before looking at his watch. It wasn't too late, but he was wondering how Sephora was doing. Tonight was one of those late night swim nights and she had always done that with Luka. He rested his hand back in his pocket before making a mental note to check on her before he went to bed. Sephora was an amazing woman and he hated that something so tragic happened to her.
He nodded with understanding. It was a good way to hunt. At least she wasn't as reckless as some of the new students who were losing their mind with the amount of freedom in shifting they had. Sephora always gave them hell when they brought in students who were hurting or bleeding because someone decided to go hunting in the wrong part of the forest. "Smart tactics. There are a lot of stupid hunters in our school who cause nasty accidents so I just like to check from time to time." Henry added as he played with the little lint ball in his pocket.

Esme frowned. She knew exactly what he meant by 'stupid hunters'.
'I did hear a few things like that. Just because they've moved here, doesn't mean they can just forget that others are here, too. I've had lion shifters try to move in to this area without even scouting the area out.'
She tilted her head back, staring at the moon. 'I've lived here on the island my whole life, and I would never leave. Even if I wasn't a Hybrid, the Holy Cross would likely bring me in. My beliefs are... distinctly different to theirs. They would disapprove of me if they ever found out.'
Looking back at him, she let a small smile touch her face, just enough to show through the fur currently hiding her skin. 'I doubt Granny Winters would let them do anything, though. She's constantly saying that as she's my guardian, only she has the right to do anything to me.' Her smile widened a little, and then suddenly disappeared as she jumped to her feet on the branch.
'Great Mother above, she's going to kill me!!! I promised I'd come visit tonight!' She grabbed Tsundere and quickly dragged the belt it was hung on over her head.

"I meant kids. Reckless students who go out and just hunt without thinking." He explained not wanting to confuse the students with the holy cross. He supposed there presence did quiet the occasional accident that came with students experimenting with their powers. It was extremely depressing to feel normal again. The atmosphere around them just shifted and it killed the freedom that used to float about the campus. The holy cross had invaded and now they had to wait out their presence or find a new place to settle. Henry would sooner die than give up Elysian.
Henry shrugged with an utter disregard for the holy cross. They were a bunch of jealous assholes who were mad that they weren't born without a gift. Henry lumped most humans right next to most demons. They were greedy and wanted nothing, but the advancement of their species. They always wanted to be on top, but the reality was that the world was at balance and that no species was made stronger than the others. They may have been given advantages, but they could all put up a hell of a fight.
"The holy cross hunts down supernaturals they just ignore the sound of their own species protesting. The rule is if you're human your safe. They won't kill innocent humans because they're not abominations of God and therefore it is a sin..." Henry repeated the doctrine quietly. It was something he had heard over and over again on the news when the Holy Cross explained themselves to protesters and other concerned people. It was sure nice to have the protection of the Cross as a human. "Go for it. You should probably go do that." He said with a little wave of his hand ready to head back to St. Gabriel anyway.
